Moncton City Council Looks At Options For Moncton Coliseum

A new consultant’s report says, if the downtown centre is built, the Moncton Coliseum should be repurposed into a full-sized trade show venue.

C-E-I Architecture is suggesting the Coliseum’s ice-surface and seats be removed to create more space for trade shows and to allow for community recreational use the rest of the time.

It could cost up to 17-million dollars, but mayor George LeBlanc says the trade show business is “thriving” and more room is desperately needed.

“We’re running into conflicts left, right and centre, trying to accommodate the trade show business when we have it locked up with hockey games and basketball games, and other things and frankly that’s becoming a real problem.”

The feasibility of a new North End Rec Centre, with a pricetag of up to 15-million dollars…was also studied by C-E-I and discussed at Monday’s council meeting.

The reports have been accepted by council and will be posted online for public feedback.
