Moncton Woman Wins New Brunswick Human Rights Award

A local women’s rights advocate has received the 2014 New Brunswick Human Rights Award.

The award was presented to Corinne Gallant yesterday by Lieutenant Governor Graydon Nicolas.

Gallant had a long career as a Philosophy Professor at U de M prior to retirement in 1994. She was one of the first women to earn a doctorate.

She was also a main contributor in the establishment of the New Brunswick Advisory Council on the Status of Women, and helped establish a shelter for battered women in Moncton, and she has also worked for Acadian rights.
