New Trial For Prominent Saint John Lawyer

The New Brunswick Court of Appeal has ordered a new trial for Saint John defence lawyer Rod Gillis on a charge of obstruction of justice after his conviction was overturned.

Gillis was found guilty of attempting to stop a witness from testifying against former Liberal M-L-A Frank Branch in a civil lawsuit involving his former employer, the North Shore Forest Products Market Board.

Gillis was sentenced by Moncton judge Irwin Lampert to 22 months in jail in June of 2013. Branch was also charged with fraud and extortion.
