Rothesay Council, Residents Express Opposition to Bow Hunting Deer

The Department of Natural Resources’ deer management plan coming under fire in Rothesay with both residents and council expressing opposition against bow hunting.

Mayor Bill Bishop will be bringing the concerns to the Kennebecasis Regional Deer Committee and they will then be forwarded on to DNR. Bishop tells us he believes the message will have an influence saying he doesn’t believe DNR will come into Rothesay and do something that the town is not in favour of.

The plan, created to deal with the booming deer population in the area, allows homeowners in Rothesay, Quispamsis and Hampton to receive special permits allowing hunters to harvest antlerless deer on their property and notes that archery hunting may be preferred in most cases.

The permits will be valid during the legal deer hunting season which runs from October 6 to November 22 and are in addition to the normal one-deer bag limit.
