Covered bridge finally being removed

After months of sitting in the Canaan River, the Cherryvale Covered Bridge is finally being removed this week.

The Department of Transportation has hired a Saint John-based contractor to remove the bridge which was washed away during spring flooding and came to rest against a highway overpass near Phillipstown.

The work is expected to be finished by this weekend at a cost of more than $240,000.

No decision has been made yet on replacing the covered bridge.
