UPDATE: Lockdown Ends At Saint John Hotel

The Hilton Hotel on the waterfront in Saint John was locked down for most of Sunday afternoon because of the Ebola scare after a woman who had visited Cameroon in west Africa was found unconscious in her room on the 7th floor.

She was rushed to hospital where she remains and Public Health was notified. It’s believed she is siffering from malaria but because of privacy concerns, health officials aren’t saying what she has made her sick, only that it isn’t Ebola.

Guests who were in the hotel weren’t allowed out and those who were out weren’t allowed in.

District Medical Health Officer Dr. Scott Giffin says Cameroon, although it’s in west Africa, isn’t one of four countries afflicted by the deadly Ebola virus but Dr. Giffin says when someone from west Africa falls ill at this time, Ebola is the first thing that comes to mind.
