Riverview fire leaves eight people temporarily homeless

Fire has forced eight people from their homes in Riverview.

The blaze broke out last night at around 6pm in a townhouse complex on Suffolk Street.

One unit was extensively damaged by fire, and the family lost everything, including three cats who died.

Two other units received smoke damage.

Riverview Deputy Fire Chief Denis Pleau says one man was home at the time, but he managed to escape unharmed.

Canadian Red Cross disaster volunteers arranged emergency lodging and food for a total of five adults and three children from three units.

There’s no word on the cause of the fire..
