Three of five NB political parties respond to river survey

MONCTON, N.B. – The Petitcodiac Riverkeeper has received feedback from three of New Brunswick’s five political parties in a survey about the future of the river.

Former Riverkeeper Daniel LeBlanc says he’s encouraged by the results from the Liberals, NDP and the Greens who all say they would replace the causeway with a partial bridge to complete the river’s restoration.

The three parties also said municipalities should have the final say in the disposal of wastewater from the oil and gas industry.

LeBlanc says he’s not surprised the Progressive Conservatives didn’t return the survey since they also didn’t take part back in 2010 just before they were elected.

The People’s Alliance Party, which has only two candidates in the 11 ridings that make up the Petitcodiac River watershed, also did not reply.
