1931 – 2026
Hubert John Busse, 95, of Moncton, New Brunswick, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre on Friday, August 14, 2026.
Born in Braunschweig, Germany, in 1931, Hubert was the son of the late Emil and Olga Busse. As a young man, he emigrated to Canada, where he continued his trade in tool and die making and built a new life in New Brunswick. A skilled craftsman and precision machinist, Hubert worked for Canadian National Railway for 30 years before retiring in 1996.
Beyond his work, Hubert was deeply curious about the world and a lifelong seeker of knowledge. An unconventional and independent thinker, he loved to read, learn, question, and explore ideas. He was a passionate gardener and enjoyed ballroom dancing and travelling.
Hubert will be deeply missed by his children, Edith Bastarache (Bill) of Riverview; Vicky Furlong (late Andrew) of Moncton; Denny Busse of Toronto; Dale Landry of Ottawa; Rick Allen (Nicole) of Dieppe; Steven Busse of Moncton; Alan Busse (Ginette) of Moncton and Tanya Busse (Joar) of Tromsø, Norway.
He will also be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Matthieu, Kailee and Jaimee; Tamara and Sammy; Lilly and Abbey; Alexi and Malika; Ingá-Elektra and Nikki-Rávdná; and by his great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Lyla, River and Ivy.
Hubert shared important chapters of his life with the late Marie Collette Busse of Bouctouche and Barbara Busse of Moncton, both of whom remained an important part of his life and family. He is also survived by his brother, Arthur Busse of Bay City, Michigan.
Besides his parents, Hubert was predeceased by his siblings, Bernard, Frida and Edith.
A Celebration of Hubert’s Life will be held at a later date, when family and friends will gather to remember and honour him.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Hubert’s memory may be made to PAW-SBA (formerly the Moncton SPCA/Humane Association).
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care and direction of Fergusons Riverview Funeral Centre & Fergusons Crematorium, 214 Pine Glen Rd., Riverview, NB, E1B 1V6, (506-857-9544).
