Greater Moncton is gearing up for a series of Canada Day events, with celebrations scheduled in Moncton, Riverview, and Dieppe, culminating in a shared fireworks finale.
The City of Moncton says its “Whoa Canada!” event will run from noon until 10:15 p.m. on Wednesday at Riverfront Park.
The daytime schedule includes a Kids’ PlayZone, buskers, glitter tattoos, family entertainment and food vendors.
An artisan village on Downing Street will also be open throughout the day with handmade goods and local products.
The city said Assomption Boulevard will be closed from 6 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. between Lutz Street and Mechanic Street.
Downing Street will also be closed from Assomption Boulevard to Sommet Lane.
Intersections at Assomption and Lutz, as well as Assomption and Westmorland, will remain open.
Access to the Moncton Law Courts, nearby condos and the RCMP station will be available through Mechanic Street.
The evening concert begins at 5 p.m. with performances by Run the River, the Chris Belliveau Band, Les Hay Babies and Half Moon Run.
A special appearance by Lisa LeBlanc is also planned.
The tri‑community fireworks are scheduled for 10 p.m. along the riverfront.
Riverview’s afternoon lineup at Caseley Park
The Town of Riverview said its Canada Day activities will take place at Caseley Park starting at noon.
The town said the event will include live entertainment, inflatables, face painting, market vendors and free Canada Day swag from the Riverview Veterans.
A multicultural dance performance begins at noon, followed by welcome remarks and cake at 1 p.m.
Music throughout the afternoon includes The Smalltown Hounds, Kevin Chase and Flea Market Underground.
Riverview said soccer activities will also be offered by the Riverview Soccer Association.
Dieppe’s community carnival at Place 1604
The City of Dieppe said its Canada Day celebration will begin at 10 a.m. at Place 1604 with a free community carnival.
The day will include musical performances, carnival games, inflatable attractions and family sports activities.
A protocol ceremony and the singing of O Canada take place at 11 a.m., followed by shows from Phil Black and the Pat Gillespie Trio.
Dieppe will also broadcast a World Cup soccer match at 5 p.m.
“It’s a free day designed for the whole community,” said Emélie Gallant, community officer with the City of Dieppe.
She said the city hopes to see residents dressed in the colours of Canada.
Dieppe is advising residents that the waterfront trail along Champlain Street remains closed between Wheeler Boulevard and Virginia Avenue until July 17 due to provincial riprap work.
The city is asking people watching the fireworks to avoid that section of the trail.
