Inmate dies in Renous prison

An inmate has died at a federal penitentiary in New Brunswick.

In a release Friday, Correctional Service Canada (CSC) said an inmate at the Atlantic Institution in Renous died June 17.

According to the release, Ryan Richard, 27, died while in custody.

Richard was serving a two-year, one-day sentence since Aug. 14, 2024.

His next of kin have been notified.

CSC said they will review the circumstances of the death.

Police and the coroner will also be notified.
