Marjorie Jean Sheehan

April 23, 1922  –  May 24, 2026

It is with profound sadness that the family of our dear mother, Marjorie Jean Sheehan (nee Buckley), of People’s Park Tower, Moncton, wishes to announce her passing on May 24th 2026, at the Moncton City Hospital at the age of 104.

She will be deeply missed by her three children, daughters Carol Hirst (Rick), Cathy Hamar (John), son Mark Sheehan (Doris), 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews all of whom brought her great joy.

Marjorie was pre-deceased by her husband, Arthur Henry Sheehan (1987), infant son, Gary Brock (1955) as well as her parents, George and Alice Maude (Reid), brothers George, Willard, Earle and Clair and sisters Jennie (David), Rhena (Lamb) and Mary Adelia Buckley.

Marjorie was the second youngest of eight children born in Glen Falls, near Saint John, NB. Growing up during the Great Depression years set the groundwork for a very close-knit, hard-working family who joyfully reunited at several family reunions and other occasions over the decades despite living in various parts of Canada and around the world.

Marjorie graduated from Saint John High School and Modern Business College, at a time when she was active at the Saint John YWCA, Girl Guides of Canada, Canadian Red Cross, various athletics and a member of Stone Church. She was employed by the G.E. Barbour Company before leaving for London, England to serve as a volunteer with the Canadian Red Cross during World War 2. She returned home to Saint John after VE Day in 1945.

She married Arthur in 1949 and subsequently moved to the Moncton area in 1951 where she stayed at home to raise their family for a few years before working as a legal secretary for 25 years. She was an active member of St. George’s Anglican Church, a former choir member and a volunteer with the Willing Workers group. She was a member of a Canadian Girl Guides Trefoil Guild, local book club, former member of the IODE and volunteered with the Red Cross Meals on Wheels program.

Marjorie will be remembered for her quick wit and sense of humour, her love of poetry and her amazing ability to recite verses from poems which she had memorized in school so many decades ago. She loved to paint, particularly with water colours, creating small paintings and greeting cards for family and friends. She loved to send them and treasured each greeting card she received. She never missed a birthday or special occasion. She loved to share memories of her life growing up with her family during the Depression years including the historical changes that occurred throughout her long life. It gave her great joy to discuss current politics at length.

Our sincere gratitude to Pastors Chris VanBuskirk and Rob Salloum and to the nursing staff of the Palliative Care Unit at the Moncton City Hospital for their exceptional care and compassion of Marjorie during her time there.

A Memorial service will be held at St. George’s Anglican Church, Moncton on Wednesday, June 24th, 2026 at 11:00 am. Reception to follow.

In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place.

Arrangements in the care of Fergusons Funeral Home & Fergusons Crematorium, 1567 Mountain Rd Moncton, (506-858-1995).

If desired, donations in Marjorie’s memory may be made to St. George’s Anglican Church, Moncton, Canadian Red Cross or a charity of your choice.
