Rita MacLaren of Moncton, NB passed away at the Dr. Georges L. Dumont University Hospital Centre after a brief illness on Thursday, May 7, 2026 at the age of 76 years.
Born in Chance Cove, NL, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Louise Brace.
Rita MacLaren was a devote wife and mother who always put her family ahead of herself. Always selfless, loving, and compassionate. She enjoyed gardening, especially tending to her beloved rose bushes. She loved being outdoors, birdwatching, and nature. She was a published poet with several pieces of poetry having been commercially published. She never turned down an opportunity to go thrift shopping, and she kept her house spotless. She knew exactly what to say to inspire a laugh, and made friends effortlessly. She touched the lives of many for the better, and was responsible for countless smiles. She will be dearly missed by those who knew her and loved her alike. Most of all by her loving family who she leaves behind. She will be fondly remembered everyday and kept in our hearts.
Survived by her husband and best friend of 45 years, Sidney MacLaren; sons, Dean Giles of Moncton, Dustin MacLaren of Fredericton, Shannon MacLaren of Riverview; daughter, Tayna Giles of New York, USA; grandchildren, Chayse MacLaren, Hudsyn MacLaren, Felicity MacLaren and Emmalyn MacLaren of Fredericton and Jamie Forgrave of Saint John, NB; Cole Roland Dean Giles-Chestnut, Christian Carter-Chestnut of Hampton and Taleah Noel of Sherbrooke QC; sisters, Olive Smith, Ivy
Smith, Florence Breton; brothers, Gerald Brace.
Honoring Rita’s wishes, cremation has taken place and private family services have been held. Donations in memory of Rita made to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.
