Man charged in Greater Moncton arsons

A man has been charged with several counts of arson after a series of fires in Greater Moncton.

Mounties said they responded to two separate arsons “within hours of each other” in downtown Moncton on Monday.

“Early in their investigation, police were able to quickly identify a person of interest,” RCMP said in a news release on Wednesday.

A 24-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested shortly after and remanded into custody.

Investigators believe he was also responsible for other fires in the Dieppe area.

The accused is charged with six counts of arson and possessing incendiary material.

He remains in custody and will return to court at a later date.
