Man arrested after Moncton standoff

A weekend standoff in Moncton has led to charges against a man from the city.

The incident happened at a residence on West Lane at around 9 a.m. Saturday.

Officers were trying to arrest a man following a break and enter earlier that morning.

Mounties said a man allegedly wielded an axe at officers and barricaded himself inside.

Emergency Response Team members arrested the man shortly after. He was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

A 34-year-old man faces several charges, including break and enter, assault with a weapon, obstruction of a peace officer and assault with a weapon on a peace officer.

He was remanded into custody and will appear in court at a later date, said police.
