Mounties Seek Public Tips About Petit-Cap Fires

RCMP have been working with the community of Beaubassin-Est to address concerns from residents after three suspicious fires recently in Petit-Cap.

Mounties plan to be more visible in the area as part of the investigation.

The most recent fire occurred last Saturday morning when several departments were called to a structure fire at M & M Cormier Fisheries Limited on Allée André.

RCMP are also investigating two smokehouse fires at Botsford Fisheries on Route 950 which occurred on August 14 at 5:45 p.m. and August 21 at 3:25 a.m.

No one was hurt during the fires.

The Provincial Fire Marshal’s office is also involved in determining the cause and if there’s a link between the fires.

“Given the time frame of these fires and their locations, they are currently considered suspicious in nature,” said Cpl. Hans Ouellette with the New Brunswick RCMP.

“Police are working with the community to address their concerns. Residents in the area may see an increased police presence in the following weeks as part of the ongoing investigation.”

The Mayor of Beaubassin-Est is encouraged by the steps being taken in the investigation.

Members of the community recently met with the RCMP, to receive more information and to find out how they can help.

Louise Landry says the meeting was very productive. She says the RCMP has assigned a full time team to investigate the fires and there will also be more patrols in the area.

Anyone with information about the fires or who may have seen suspicious activity in the area is asked to contact Shediac RCMP at 506-533-5151 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), by downloading the secure P3 Mobile App, or by Secure Web Tips at www.crimenb.ca
