Most Atlantic Canadians Want Regional Bubble Reestablished Soon

A poll shows most Atlantic Canadians would like to see COVID-19 travel restrictions eased within the region by the summer months.

Narrative Research has found the vast majority or 84 percent of Atlantic Canadians surveyed want the regional travel bubble reestablished.

Support was fairly consistent in all four provinces but highest in New Brunswick.

However, 67 percent or two-thirds of residents who were asked are opposed to reopening to the rest of Canada this summer.

Even more respondents or 84 percent are against reopening the international border with the United States.

Residents would support a reopening only when vaccines are fully rolled out, COVID case counts remain low and rapid testing is available at airports.

The survey was conducted earlier this month and almost 2,800 Atlantic Canadians took part.

Meantime, the four Atlantic premiers are scheduled to meet again next week to discuss the travel bubble but early indications suggest it won’t reopen until at least May 20.
