NS Man Facing Charges Of Assaulting A Police Officer

A 27-year-old man from Halifax is facing charges after a police officer was reportedly assaulted in Moncton.

RCMP say they responded to a report of a disturbance at a convenience store on Killam Drive on March 6th.

A man and a woman believed to be involved in the incident were located walking nearby.

Police identified the man as a person of interest in other ongoing investigations, and attempted to arrest him, but a struggle broke out.

The man managed to get into a nearby police cruiser and attempted to get away, but collided with a second police cruiser that had just arrived on scene.

The man fled on foot, and was arrested a short distance away. No one was seriously injured in the incident.

John Jay Anderson is charged with assaulting a police officer.

He is scheduled to return to court on March 10th.
