A life size gingerbread house in the lobby of the Delta Beausejour Hotel has become an annual tradition.
The house was unveiled this morning to help kick off the holiday season in Downtown Moncton.
The nine foot gingerbread house includes a Nutcracker themed Gingerbread village this year.
Rachelle Desmeules, who works at the Delta Beausejour, came up with the theme this year, says it is close to her heart, “My inspiration is actually the Nutcracker movie I used to watch as a child. Every year, that was kind of a family tradition and I decided to share it with everyone.”
Hotel General Manager Ray Roberge says they have been building the house for a number of years, “This is now eight years in a row that we have been doing this. It was just kind of an idea, to build a little gingerbread house and it grew into something quite big over the years.”
Roberge adds, it’s quite amazing what goes into the house each year, “A gingerbread house is built with molasses, egg whites, flour, cinnamon and spices and lots of sugar, 18 kilograms and 15 kilograms of shortening. Everyone needs to know that all of the food that is used here comes from our broken containers, so it is not stuff that we could donate or use.”
Families are welcome to come and take photos in front of the gingerbread house, while dropping off a donation of a non perishable food item for the Food Depot Alimentaire or a cash donation for the Children’s Miracle Network.
