It was a cold morning for around 24 firefighters as they battled a blaze on Nature Drive in the Lakeburn area this morning.
Dieppe Fire District Chief Marc Cormier says when they arrived at around 4:30 this morning, they found heavy fire in the attic and roof area of the one story home, “We relied on the assistance of the Moncton and Memramcook fire departments to help with transporting water. There are no hydrants in the area, therefore we had to have more trucks on scene to supply water.”
It’s believed at this point the home is a total loss.
“Initially we were in the offensive strategy, but had to switch to defensive because the fire was too overwhelming and we didn’t have enough water to support it, so we switched a defensive operation,” Cormier says.
Cormier says a family of two adults and two children managed to escape without injuries.
Canadian Red Cross volunteers from Moncton assisted them with emergency lodging, food, clothing purchases, other essentials and comfort toys for two children ages 13 and nine, while they await additional support through insurance.
The Fire Marshall is on scene and is investigating a cause.
