Sunshine For 10th Annual Convoy For Hope

Up to 100 trucks will leave the Salisbury Big Stop between 11am and noon today and will head for Moncton.

It’s for the 10th annual Convoy for Hope, raising awareness and funds in the fight against lung, breast, colon and prostate cancer.

Spokesperson Jo-Anne Phillips says it is a wonderful sight with trucks decorated. “They convoy to raise awareness and funds for various forms of cancer. Some decorate for all four cancers involved and some just focus on the one. There are a lot of folks who take some dedicated time to put together collages, with the faces of those they love. It really is beautiful, exciting and passionate.”

Some of the trucks will be carrying trailers, while others will not, ” For any trucks that cannot drop their loads. So obviously for security reasons there are some loads that cannot be left and they don’t have a secure yard in the area, those trucks will be hauling their trailers. A long lengthy, beautiful parade.”

Over $350, 000 has been raised through this event over the past nine years.

“We guarantee that over 90 per cent of those funds raised are staying right here in the Atlantic provinces. The foundations get back to us to let us know exactly where those funds are being invested,” Phillips says.
