20th Edition of Moncton Pride Week

The raising of the rainbow flag will mark the opening of the 20th edition of Moncton pride week.

It’s happening today at 11:45 in Centennial Park and will be followed by a BBQ.

Charles MacDougall, project co-ordinator at River of Pride says they’re highlighting a big milestone.

“We’re presenting 40 events which represents one of our our biggest pride weeks ever and that’s appropriate because it is our 20th so we wanted to do something special,” he says.

They’ll also have a number of new events including a second chance prom that’s being held tonight.

“We’re giving people in our community who maybe have not have had a good experience in high school, at their prom a second chance to have a great time in a safe space where they can bring the partner they want or where express themselves and dress in the way that they want to,” MacDougall says.

He adds that many other favourite events are also included in this year’s schedule and a number of special guests will be featured.

Pride week was pushed back a week this year due to the Congres Mondial Acadien.

“Our usual week is exceptionally busy this year with an amazing amount of activities for the Congres which we’re big fans of but we decided to have our own week to ourselves for our 20th and that’s why we’re a little later,” says MacDougall.

Most events are free to attend and you can find the full schedule and more about River of Pride and Moncton Pride here.
