One Week To The Congres Mondial Acadien 2019

The Congrès mondial acadien is fast approaching.

Claudette Theriault is chair of the event’s organizing committee, she says they have spent the last 5 years putting everything together.

Festivities kick off next Saturday in Abrams Village on Prince Edward’s Island.

“It will be a full day of activities, starting at noon. We have groups from Louisiana, from Quebec and all over coming together for this event,” says Theriault.

This is the first time the Island will be hosting the event that features live performances, conferences and family reunions.

“It was quite an opportunity for a small minority community in P.E.I. to be part of such a big event. Everybody worked together in this big collective project. We have 8 host communities in Prince Edward Island and 12 in New Brunswick,” Theriault says.

Festivities will then move from the Island on the 15th and continue in New Brunswick.

The first ever congress was also held in Southeast New Brunswick, 25 years ago in 1994.

A commemorative pin can be purchased and will get you into most of the events. It can be purchased here.
