Moncton City Council Approves Parking Lot For Green Space Beside Former MHS

The football field at the former Moncton High school is going to be replaced with a parking lot..

Last night, City Council approved the plan for the 562 space lot that will give future occupants of the old MHS building a place to park.

Councillor Shawn Crossman says the the vote was unanimous, “Everyone voted in favour of it last night, just pending on the citizens response and their reply staff that they bare in full support of the project.”

Crossman was originally opposed to the project, “I also looked at it as an opportunity for Dick Carpenter to give back to the community, and offer them the chance to do something with it. Whether it be a park or a related recreational area, then the ball’s in your court. I understand the citizens concerns.”

The former Moncton High School was purchased by Heritage Developments and it is being repurposed as office space.

Crossman says no timeline was given, “These two steps in the rebirth of Moncton High are totally up to the contractor and totally up to the building owner and his progress on that building. We could looking at a year, we could be looking at six months, or even longer than that.”
