$50,000 raised at Wake Up Call Breakfast in Moncton

MONCTON, N.B. – $50,000 has been raised for prostate cancer research at the 3d annual Wake Up Call Breakfast in Moncton.

The event, held this morning at the Delta Beausejour, was also meant to promote awareness of the disease and to encourage men to get checked.

Prostate cancer survivor Charlie Taylor of Moncton was the keynote speaker and Moncton mayor George LeBlanc was honoured with the Local Hero Award for his dedication to the cause.

Peter Mallette with Prostate Cancer Canada’s Atlantic Division says they wanted to recognize LeBlanc for his efforts.

“He’s supportive at the grassroots level and it’s because of him that we have this breakfast today. He introduced us to some of the key people.”

About 760 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer this year in New Brunswick according to the Canadian Cancer Society.
