Enrolment spike at Université de Moncton

Université de Moncton is reporting its highest enrolment since 1994.

The facility welcomed 5,316 full-time students this fall semester.

An enrolment of this size has only been surpassed four other times, between 1991 and 1994, since the university was founded in 1963.

This is an increase of 7.6 percent over last fall.

According to President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Denis Prud’homme, the university will have to adapt quickly, “The changing needs of our students must be reflected in the kinds of welcome, support, and assistance services we provide. We’re pleased that our students have been able to find housing, but we need to plan for long-term solutions.”

Across the three campuses, there are 3,442 Canadian students, which is down 94 enrolments.

After a significant increase in the number of international students last year, the institution continued this growth and welcomed 469 more students than last year, for a total of 1,874.

International enrollment has more than doubled in three years. Forty different countries are represented among our students, with Algeria among the countries with the highest rate of new international enrollment.

The Faculty of Administration programs saw the biggest growth, reporting 194 more enrollments than last year.
