Fleming Street fire causes ‘significant’ smoke, water damage

A fire in a two-storey apartment building on Fleming Street caused significant smoke and water damage to one unit, according to the Moncton Fire Department.

Acting Platoon Chief Paul MacFadyen told our newsroom Sunday the call came in around noon.

He said three crews arrived on scene to knock down the fire.

MacFadyen said it appears to have started in a bedroom of a unit on the building’s second floor.

“There’s significant smoke and water damage to the unit,” he said, adding the unit was occupied at the time.

Nobody was injured by the blaze and MacFadyen said the cause is under investigation.
