YMCA Optimistic North End Rec Centre Will Get Built

While the YMCA is disappointed over delays to the long promised North End Recreation Centre, their Vice President of Programs and Community Initiatives is optimistic the project will get done.

Dave Theriault says the main challenge is getting all the funding pieces in the proper place.

“Maybe the past 12-18 months we’ve really been working towards and agreement where the City [of Moncton] can assure from its perspective they’re getting the most bang for their dollar as far as making sure the residents are getting what they need,” says Theriault.

He admits is does take some time but “we are optimistic, and at this point I would assume probably by the end of this year, 2017, we will have made some significant steps in the stage that we’re in right now.”

Theriault says once this is completed, they will be moving into a design phase, and formalize the site.

He adds they are looking forward to revealing details publicly once the deal is finalized.
