World Record Set In Moncton For Charity

A Guinness World Record has been set in Southeastern New Brunswick for the longest line of banknotes.

The $5 Challenge was launched by Medavie in October seeking $5 contributions in support of the Beausejour Family Crisis Resource Centre.

Not only was the campaign goal surpassed but the record was broken on Wednesday with $251,030 – a total of 50,206 bills ($5 denominations) strung together for a total distance of 7,435.57 metres.

The bills were put together on the ice surface of the Avenir Centre.

Setup began at 3am with volunteers laying the bills in continuous rows in a snake formation.

This event more than doubled the previous world record of 3434.40 metres set in Illinois, USA.

The funds raised will support the Beausejour Family Crisis Resource Centre which offers counselling and support to those experiencing emotional difficulties as well as victims of family violence and sexual assault along with their children in southeast New Brunswick.
