Work will continue this week, as participants in this year’s upcoming Royale Greater Moncton Santa Claus Parade continue working on their entries.
Spokesperson Robert Gallant says they aim to impress the over 100, 000 spectators that come out to see the third largest parade in Canada, “You’ll see in some towns, you can just go in with your pickup truck and your company name on the side, but we don’t allow just that. You really have to go over and above make it something special for the kids.”
Gallant says there are a lot of people who volunteer their time to make sure their parade is a big hit, “It’s a volunteer committee, and lots of great people have been working on this for the past 50 years. It has really grown and adapted over the years. When it switched to a nighttime parade is when it really exploded, because everyone started lighting up their floats and making it much more of a magical experience.”
This year’s parade is set for this Saturday starting at 5pm. This is the 50th year for the parade, and the theme this year is “Fire and Ice.”
The parade route remains the same. It begins at the corner of Cameron and Main Street in Moncton and runs to the corner of Champlain and Paul Street in Dieppe.
