The YWCA of Greater Moncton is once again preparing to recognize Women of Distinction in our region.
Executive Director Jewell Mitchell says there are thirteen nominees this year, and winners will be chosen in various categories, “We have the young woman’s advocacy award, we have outstanding mentorship award and we have the legacy leaders award. We will also be paying tribute for the first time, to two outstanding late legacy leaders.”
The nominees are chosen for many different qualities.
“How she behaves in the world, how she excels, not only in her field, but really making way for others. That is what we really value here at the YWCA, making your community better and more accessible for women, girls and families.”
Mitchell says they are doing things a little different this year, when the winners are officially announced at the event on April 13th, “This year, we actually have all of the awards nominees coming. The selection panel has submitted scorecards, and they’ll tabulate the results, and they’ll be announced live at the ceremony. So we have no idea who the Women of Distinction are going to be.”
The ceremony is being held at Hotel Wingate.
