Woman, 89, struck and killed in eastern N.B.

Police say an 89-year-old woman from Moncton has died after being struck by a vehicle in eastern New Brunswick.

RCMP say the collision happened on Route 475 in Baie de Bouctouche around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.

“The involved vehicle fled the scene before police arrived,” Mounties said in a news release on Thursday.

Officers located the vehicle in Bouctouche shortly after and arrested an 18-year-old man for leaving the scene of a collision.

The man was later released pending investigation and will appear in court at a later date.

An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the woman’s exact cause of death.

Police said anyone with information that could help with the investigation is asked to contact Richibucto RCMP at 506-523-4611 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
