Moncton Wildcats fans won’t have to wait long to see the team defend the den.
The QMJHL announced last week teams would return to the ice after COVID-19 halted play for nearly two months.
A brief schedule for the resumption of play this weekend has the Wildcats hosting two Quebec-based teams in their return to action.
Starting at 7 p.m. on Saturday, the Wildcats will try to rid themselves of any rust in a matchup against Rimouski before a quick turnaround to entertain Blainville-Boisbriand at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
Through New Brunswick’s move to Level 2 of the COVID-19 Winter Action Plan, venues are permitted to open at 50 per cent capacity, welcoming those who are fully vaccinated or medically exempt.
Moncton resumes play with a 15-10-3-1 record, which is good enough for eighth in the league.
The QMJHL has stated its intention is to complete a full 68-game regular season.
The 2022 President Cup playoffs format will be announced at a later date, though action will begin on May 5 and conclude no later than June 15.
