Of all the industries that have the potential to benefit from the Atlantic Bubble, the tourism sector may be the one that needs it the most.
While it may not generate the revenue that business owners would expect in a normal year, the opportunity to appeal to Maritimers that have been stuck in their respective provinces will have to do.
Jenna Cann is the owner of the Magnetic Hill Wharf Village, which includes a collection of shops, a restaurant, and an ice cream shop.
“The Atlantic Bubble is definitely a positive thing we love our neighbouring provinces and welcoming them,” said Cann
The Wharf Village is expected to open up for the season on Mother’s Day weekend, just three weeks after the Atlantic Bubble.
Attracting tourists will be essential for the business that lost around two months of their season last year due to the pandemic.
“The Atlantic Bubble is definitely a positive thing. We love our neighbouring provinces and welcoming them,” she said.
In preparation for their opening this year, Cann says they will feature more shops for visitors with the hope that they experience an increased amount of the Atlantic Bubble movement.
