Water Bombers Help Contain Irishtown Park Fire

Moncton firefighters and the Department of Natural Resources are back on scene in Irishtown Nature Park today looking for hot spots.

Platoon Chief Dennis Dollemont says a fire on the John Howard Trail spread quickly on Sunday evening and grew to about five hectares (13 acres) in size.

The trucks were not able to get access to the forest fire so all-terrain vehicles had to be used to shuttle firefighters and equipment to the scene.

With help from six DNR water bombers from Fredericton and Miramichi, Dollemont says the fire was brought under control around 8:30pm.

RCMP were on scene preventing people from entering the park during the blaze.

This was the second fire in Irishtown Nature Park this summer.

No word yet on a cause.
