Wastage of Food In Canada Is A Big Problem

A Senate Committee is examining the effects of climate change. The Canada Research Chair for Global Food Security, Dr. Evan Fraser estimates about one-third of the food produced in the world is wasted and that’s a major problem along with food insecurity.

Dr. Fraser says the less food that’s wasted, the less winds up in landfills and that would mean less methane gas being produced which would help mitigate climate change.

Dr. Fraser says food insecurity in Canada which affects 1 out of every 7 people and 1 of 5 children has more to do with access to food and that’s affected more by social policies.
