Warning For Province On Shale Gas

The Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters Association is calling for the moratorium on shale gas development be lifted after six months.

Regional Vice-President Joel Richardson warns if it is still in effect beyond that time, jobs and investments will start dropping off. He also points out the average age in New Brunswick has risen to 44 and young people are leaving the province in droves to work in Alberta.

The manufacturers and exporters don’t see any difference between a moratorium and a ban.

The Fredericton Chamber of Commerce is also speaking out in favour of developing shale gas and questions the vagueness of the terminology, having “social license” to proceed and whether that means everyone having to agree which would be impossible to achieve.
