Warm Weather And Rain Mean Possibility Of Flooding

With a high of 8 degrees today, and warm weather coming, the New Brunswick Emergency Measures Organization is warning residents to be prepared for the possibility of flooding.

With rain replacing the snow we’ve seen so much of lately we could be diving directly into spring flooding.

That warning coming from River Watch which states that the forecasted temperatures could lead to the melting of snow pack and the deteroriation of ice covers.

Those living along streams and rivers are being asked to keep an eye out for ice movement and ice jams which could cause the water to rise quickly.

River Watch also says the weather could lead to localized flooding where drainage systems are blocked by ice and snow.

There’s the potential for for 20 millimetres or more of rain to fall on southern New Brunswick by Friday.

The City of Moncton has much advice on how to make your home less susceptible to floods, including checking all basement windows and ground level doors to make sure they are sealed properly.
