Warehouse Expansion At Food Depot Alimentaire

In recent years, the Food Depot Alimentaire began supplying food to all 60 food banks across the province.

Since then, they have been looking at expanding their warehouse but ran into some delays due to the change of government.

Chantal Senecal, Executive Director of the Food Depot Alimentaire says the hold up gave them time to reevaluate their plan.

“We originally wanted an expansion of 100 by 60 and we brought in a consultant to look at warehouse efficiencies and we were able to find quite a bit of efficiencies in our warehouse that we could operate with the current infrastructure,” Senecal says.

She says they were able to make some changes to the existing facility to give them more space.

The provincial government agreed to invest 200 thousand dollars to the project.

They also got additional 50 thousand dollar donations, from both JD Irving and former Premier Frank McKenna.

Senecal says it’s not quite enough to cover the entire project, set to cost just under 4 thousand dollars.

“Through our organization and what we do each and every day to fund-raise and to bring in some money for projects like this we’re confident that we will be able to do it through donations and some capacity grants that we’ve applied for,” says Senecal.
