A new style of school plans to open its doors in September in Riverview.
The Waldweg Forest school focuses on nature for their teaching.
Instructor Mitch Martin says this type of school has been around for awhile and they’re very popular in the UK, but there are a few in Canada.
He says, “You take a kid out into the woods, and you want to discuss why the leaves are turning orange, but another child is asking about a frog. You’re going to base your lesson or curriculum around what they are interested in.”
Martin says he has a three year old who doesn’t stop asking questions, and he believes if we don’t start educating children based on their interests, eventually they will stop asking those questions.
An open house with more information on the Waldweg Forest school will be held on Saturday June 20th.
