With recent concerns over the Whooping Cough outbreak in the region, many are raising questions about whether or not New Brunswick should put a vaccination registry into place.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Yves Leger says in this province it is difficult to track.
He says, “Here in New Brunswick, we have a mixed system so, some vaccines are provided through public health and some are provided through other such as Physicians.”
Without a registry, many New Brunswickers are left asking whether or not they’ve had the shots needed to keep them protected.
He admits a registry would benefit us, because it would enable us to provide accurate estimates on vaccine coverage, and it would also allow them to look at the various demographics and which ones have lower vaccination coverage.
Leger says all of the Canadian provinces track their vaccines in one way or another, but none of them are ideal and they don’t track in a detailed fashion..
