An entangled North Atlantic right whale has been spotted off the coast of northeastern New Brunswick.
The Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) says the whale was seen off Miscou on Friday.
“It was swimming with rope around its body and trailing behind it,” reads a statement from DFO.

Fishery officers spent the day Saturday looking for the mammal but were unable to find it.
They say regular surveillance flights will continue and more information will be shared if the whale is sighted again.
DFO issued new regulations to fishermen earlier this year after 12 endangered North Atlantic right whales died in the Gulf of St. Lawrence between June and September of last year.
