UPDATED: Crews Working To Restore Power In New Brunswick

There are thousands of NB Power customers without heat or lights across the province as the first storm of the new year hammered the region, with the Acadian Peninsula currently bearing the brunt of the outages.

NB Power says two crews from Saint John Energy and two crews from Edmundston Energy are joining the 57 NB Power Crews and 13 contractor crews working to get New Brunswickers back on the grid.

“The main challenge for our crews has really been road access and visibility due to snow drifts,” NB Power’s Marie-Andree Bolduc tells us.

“So we do have a full complement of crews throughout the province but at this time we’re still seeing some road access challenges to actually go to the sites where repairs are needed.”

NB Power says that although there isn’t a major infrastructure damage reported, the outages in various parts of New Brunswick have resulted from power lines touching and branches making contact with them.

They are focusing on restoring the transmission outage in Lameque and in areas where a large amount of customers are off the grid. Estimated times of restorations will be issued as the assessments continue.
