UPDATED: Closures Of Browns Flat Elementary, Lorne Middle School Quashed By Court

The decisions to close Lorne Middle School and Browns Flat Elementary have been overturned by the courts according to lawyer Kelly Lamrock.

Parent Phil Kennedy of Browns Flat tells us that they are ecstatic, excited and they feel as though justice has prevailed. Kennedy says that they will be very concerned and interested in hearing what the government will be doing about Policy 409 saying they assume that this decision will have major ramifications on the policy.

The District Education Council had recommended the closure of both schools and the recommendations were accepted by Education Minister Serge Rousselle.

Rousselle releasing a statement, which says, they will take time to review the decision however points out that they would underline paragraph 52 of the ruling by Justice Darell J Stephenson which states: “I’m not prepared to order the school be kept open….”

The Education Minister goes on to say, “the sustainability studies were undertaken by the District Education Council in order to make maximum use of our limited financial resources, while improving the quality of education for our students. They know, like we do, that finding available efficiencies in our infrastructure will result in more funds behind available for classroom learning, ultimately helping our children.”
