The Mayor of Dallas now says twelve police officers were shot overnight and two civilians were also hit, who are now in hospital. Five of the police officers were killed in the sniper shootings in downtown Dallas, Texas where there was a protest being held over the recent fatal shootings of two black men by police in Louisiana and Minnesota.

There was a standoff happening in the downtown area as authorities attempted to negotiate with a suspect who was exchanging gunfire with police. However, it is being reported that the suspect is dead. Dallas police chief David O. Brown said the suspect had told negotiatiators that the end is coming and that he will hurt and kill more law enforcement officers.
Chief Brown said that have three people in custody. He says it’s a very emotional time for their department and the law enforcement community in Dallas and across the country.
Mayor Mike Rawlings said it is a heartbreaking moment for the city of Dallas.
“It is a heartbreaking morning. To say that our police officers put their life on the line every day is no hyperbole, ladies and gentlemen, it’s a reality.”
