Thousands of customers in Greater Moncton are waking up in the cold and dark.
According to NB Power’s outages map at 12PM, there are 6,413 customers without service this afternoon, all of which are in Riverview and Moncton, while Dieppe remains untouched thus far.
That’s down from 12,579 customers around 10:45AM.
After having reaching out to NB Power, they reported crews have discovered the cause is an equipment fault in a remote area.
In an email, spokesperson Marie-Andree Bolduc says the source is in a wooded area, and so crews need specialized equipment, like skidoos, to access the site.
As a result, she says crews are needing a little extra time to restore power but crews are making efforts to connect customers to another power source while they bring in equipment and begin repairs.
Riverview is taking the brunt of the outage, with 9,742 customers affected as of 10:45AM, while 2,855 Moncton customers are impacted.
Power restoration estimates currently show all customers should be back online by 5 this afternoon.
Estimated restoration times vary between 9:30AM and 3:00PM this afternoon, details on outages can be found HERE.
