UPDATE: Power restored to most in Moncton

Power has been restored to most in Moncton following a widespread outage on Friday morning.

NB Power said more than 5,300 homes and businesses were without electricity at the peak.

That number is down to around 40, with those customers expected to have power back by later this afternoon.

A spokesperson for the utility said the outage was caused by an animal coming into contact with equipment.

Meanwhile, New Brunswick Community College (NBCC) closed its Moncton campus at 11:30 a.m. due to the outage.
