University of Moncton Blue Eagles to face Acadia University Axemen in semi-final

The University of Moncton Blue Eagles will begin their Bell Atlantic University Sport best of five men’s hockey semi-final series against the Acadia University Axemen on Feb. 27 and 28 at 7 p.m. at the Jean-Louis-Lévesque Arena.

The Axemen paved their way to the semis after eliminating St. Francis Xavier University’s X-Men in a three-game quarter-final round. The Eagles got a bye to the semi-final series. Moncton won all five games against Acadia during the season.

“It’s a new season and we’re going to look at it like we did during the season,” said coach Derek Cormier. “Beginning at home, we must be ready for them … playing in the nest is always special.”

“We’re excited about the new season, it’s a fresh start and we’re confident,” said alternate captain Denis Toner. “We know how the season ended, but it’s a different intensity for the playoffs, and we’re looking forward to playing in front of our fans.”

“Everyone knows the importance of the three victories to win. It’s also important for the community and culture at the Université de Moncton,” said Toner.

If necessary, games 3 and 4 will be held in Acadia on Tuesday, March 3 and Wednesday, March 4.

Tickets for the games can be purchased online at tickets.moncton.ca or at the CEPS reception desk during the day. If still available, tickets will also be sold at the arena box office on game nights starting at 6 p.m.
