United Way’s Day of Caring

What would take months gets done in a single day Across southeastern and eastern New Brunswick!

On Friday, June 12, more than 1050 volunteers from workplaces across Southeastern and Eastern New Brunswick will step away from their desks and offices and into their communities for United Way’s Day of Caring, presented by Medavie.

For many local charities, schools, and community organizations, the more than 125 projects completed during Day of Caring may otherwise sit on a wish list waiting for the time, funding, or volunteers needed to get them done.

From painting and landscaping to gardening, cleaning, and building, volunteers will roll up their sleeves and help transform community spaces in just one day.

Day of Caring is a United Way of Greater Moncton and Southeastern New Brunswick initiative that connects local workplaces with charities, schools, and community organizations in need of volunteer support. Throughout the year, United Way works behind the scenes to identify projects, coordinate volunteers, secure resources, and bring community partners together so organizations can focus on what they do best: supporting people.

“Day of Caring is one of the most inspiring days of the year,” said Debbie McInnis, CEO of United Way of Greater Moncton and Southeastern New Brunswick. “As a community connector, United Way brings together workplaces, volunteers, and local organizations to make projects possible that might otherwise never get completed. It is a reminder of what is possible when people come together to support their community.”

For volunteers, Day of Caring offers the opportunity to see their impact firsthand. For community organizations, it means projects get completed that may otherwise remain unfinished for months or even years.

It is what happens when a community comes together to support the organizations that help our neighbours every day.

Last year, 1,047 volunteers completed 151 projects across Southeastern New Brunswick, contributing 6,033 volunteer hours valued at nearly $169,000. Together, they planted more than 4,400 flowers, herbs, and vegetables while helping local organizations improve spaces used by thousands of people throughout the year.
