United by Song

United by Song presented by BMO Private Wealth in support of the United Way of Greater Moncton and Southeastern NB November 17th, Capital Theatre. United by Song is a one of-a-kind evening where real stories from individuals from across southeastern New Brunswick, whose lives have been changed through United Way–supported programs, are transformed into powerful songs by local songwriters.  One of those songwriters is the incredibly talented Liliane Cormier who said she was approached with an incredible story about a young girl and how one of the dogs from the Courage Center in Shediac helped her get through a really, really challenging time in her life. She was able to learn the story and then got to know a little bit about the dog, whose name is Winston. She said she got to write a little song about that connection that they have, the young girl and Winston and how they kind of helped each other through a rough time. She had the opportunity to meet Winston at the Courage Center, he was there with his brother, Jazz.  Winston is a Justice Facility Dog, and these amazing dogs are not only incredibly intelligent, but they’re trained to support people going through the justice system. They’re trained to sit at their feet in the witness box. They give them courage, especially if it’s a child who’s testifying it’s very intimidating being in court and it’s also very hard to recall your story when you’re very tense. So the dogs offer that calming support and it’s just a beautiful thing and the program started out of Shediac and it’s now starting to spread across parts of New Brunswick and Winston is one of those dogs that is changing lives.  United by Song, November 17th, Capital Theatre, tickets are free!
